The Art Wolfe Digital Photography Center invites you to join Rick Holt and Keron Psillas in Holland for eight days of creative inspiration and learning. Ignite your creativity, enhance your photographic technique, and add new image editing skills to complete your vision.
Rick Holt and Keron Psillas will guide our small group to the most enchanting spots in Holland. Our base will be the 4-Star Golden Tulip Hotel, located in Leiden, just a 15 minute drive from the Gardens and less than a 20 minute direct train ride to Amsterdam and The Hague. With early access to the gardens and plenty of time to explore and enjoy the unique cityscapes of Amsterdam and The Hague, this trip is perfect for photographers and non-photographer spouses/friends as well.
Our departure from the US on the 12th of April will put us in Holland for the peak of the spring bloom! In addition to many hours of shooting, we will have a series of short lectures on photographic technique, workflow, and creative image editing skills. There will also be abundant instruction in the field. Rick and Keron will be shooting from time to time, but they will be working to share their vision with students in the field. They will be demonstrating wide angle shooting for maximum impact, macro skills, and creative techniques including zoom burst, layering, vertical and horizontal panning, and many other ideas.
We have arranged for a conference room to serve as our digital lab. Bring your laptops to get the most out of the image editing instruction. Rick will be our digital tutor for the trip and will give entertaining and informative instruction in Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. There will be time set aside each day for critiques. Daily critiques are essential for rapid growth and expanding your vision.
Keron will lead the group on a tour of the Van Gogh museum or the Rijksmuseaum. She will be talking with the group about finding inspiration in the work of the artists on display. The light in a Vermeer, the shadowing of a Rembrandt and the bold coloring of a Van Gogh will be just a few of the topics she will explore.
The famous floating flower market, the tulip fields, the iconic windmills, and the shoreline of Northern Holland will round out our Netherlands experience. With good food, good company, beautiful gardens and old-world architecture, we are certain to make this a once-in-a-lifetime trip! Register now to join us...spaces will fill quickly.
Eric Scouten, original member of the Adobe Lightroom Development Team, will be joining the trip to Holland in April. Sign up now and take advantage of THREE great teachers for this trip. With a maximum group size of 12 photographers, we will have lots of one-on-one time with every student and great technical support. There are still three seats left!
For those students wishing to extend their fun, we will have a four day extension to the Holland trip. We will go to PARIS! Paris in late April....what is better than that? We'll zip from Amsterdam to Paris in just over three hours on the luxury Thalys train. Our home base will be a lovely small hotel across the street from the Louvre and in the very center of Paris. Join Keron and Rick as they guide you to favorite neighborhoods and little-known spots. Keron lived in Paris for a time and is anxious to show you the best of Paris. Email for more information...
Depart US for overnight flight to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Airfare is not included in the cost of the trip. All transportation in Holland is included.
Arrive in Amsterdam and transfer to our hotel. We will have a light lunch together and review our itinerary. Our afternoon will be free to rest or explore in Leiden. We will have an evening lecture in our conference room, and then enjoy dinner together.
We will depart early for The Keukenhof. We will have breakfast each morning in the hotel before our day of exploration. We will arrive at The Keukenhof before the official opening time to have several hours and the best light to ourselves! We will gather at various times in certain spots for instruction...as well as lunch in the Garden! We will return to our hotel and gather in the lab for downloading and image preparation. Dinner together will precede a critique session from 8 until 9:30 PM.
Again, after breakfast, we will depart early for The Keukenhof. You will have ample opportunity to employ some of the creative techniques we saw during the previous evening. We will have lunch on our own in the Garden, and if the light is good, we'll stay a little longer. The lab will be open from 4 until 6 for downloading and instruction. Dinner on our own tonight, but critiques will begin promptly at 8 PM.
After breakfast today, we will ride the train to Amsterdam and visit museums, stroll along the canals, and photograph whatever strikes our fancy. Talk with Keron about museum choices, including the Anne Frank Museum, and about dining options. We will gather and travel back to Leiden as a group for lab time and critiques. Dinner on our own.
Following breakfast, we will journey by private bus to the Tulip Market to see first hand the bustle and commerce surrounding Holland's leading export crop. After the market, we will journey to the coast, stopping for a lunch together in a charming seaside town. Windmills, beaches, and the countryside will be our photographic focus today. We will return to Leiden in time for critiques, with dinner plans decided during our journey depending on the light. The lab will be open from 8 to 0 PM, but we will not have critiques this night.
After our breakfast, we will journey by private bus to the Tulip Fields for an early morning shoot. Country scenes, pastoral landscapes and villages will provide opportunities as well. We will have the afternoon free to journey to Amsterdam or to The Keukenhof, as you wish. Lunch on our own. The lab will be open from 6 PM on, with critiques again at 8 PM.
We will enjoy one last shoot in the garden. After lunch, we will gather at our hotel and travel by train to The Hague to enjoy this historic city and the culture it offers. We will have an early dinner together in The Hague and then take our train back to Leiden for a farewell slideshow.
We depart our hotel for Amsterdam Schiphol Airport following breakfast.
