Fine Art Digital Printmaking

4-Day Program: $975
Sept 18 - 21, 2008

Join R. Mac Holbert for four days of printmaking that is guaranteed to take your imaging and printmaking skills to the next level. This workshop will explore the recent technological developments in fine art digital printmaking. By combining the latest digital printmaking and image editing technology with traditional fine art photographic printmaking techniques, students will learn how to efficiently optimize their digital images. Participants will learn methods that will enhance their ability to create high quality digital input and output either with their own equipment, or in conjunction with an outside service provider. The class will focus on developing a personal image optimization workflow that encourages a non-destructive and efficient approach to enhancing one's images. Additional in-depth discussions will include color calibration, color management, advanced imaging techniques, output options, substrate choices, and permanence issues.

***
Students are expected to have intermediate to advanced Photoshop skills.

We encourage you to bring problematic images. Also bring copies of prints you have made. They can be a rich source of troubleshooting. To optimize the printing and image sharing process please make sure that your images are sized and correctly named.

  • Images should be no larger than 8" X 10" @ 360 DPI. At this size we can easily make prints up to 16" X 20". If you have your images presized and correctly named we won't need to spend precious time resizing and renaming files.
  • Images should not be flattened or sharpened.
  • 8 bit or 16 bit RGB or grayscale.
  • Photoshop or TIFF format.
  • CD or preferably a removable USB 2.0 hard drive or thumb drive.
  • All images need to be named using the student's LAST name followed by a number (i.e. smith01.psd or smith02.tif).
  • Students are encouraged to bring prints as well as files.
