This workshop imparts a thorough understanding of Raw processing through Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to final output, with emphasis on color management. The course will include an introduction to color management and color theory, after which we'll delve deep into the proper color settings for Photoshop and Lightroom. From there, device calibration and profiling of display and various output devices will be demonstrated using various software and hardware products, giving the student a thorough introduction to the possible solutions they may wish to consider. The workshop emphasizes an entire workflow approach from Raw capture to output using best color management practices resulting in the minimum of time and fuss. Students are encouraged to bring their Raw-capable digital cameras or Raw files so that images can be processed in Lightroom, finessed in Photoshop for ideal capture and output sharpening, then color managed for final reproduction. Students may bring targets printed on their own printers to build custom ICC profiles in addition to being able to color manage the devices in our lab.
Students should have digital cameras that can produce a Raw file for processing and output during this class. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop computer. However, the school has 12 PC workstations available for student use. Bring profile targets, printed from your own printer to build ICC profiles (*please, limit 3 per student). Target files and printing instructions will be provided.
